logophile
noun
1. lover of words
Hi! I'm Barbara Tinervia, a proofreader specializing in proofing legal transcripts. If there was a certificate for being a logophile, I'd have earned it by about the age of eight. I can't remember ever not loving words. As a child, I'd sit down and read the dictionary. I could never just look up the word that I wanted without getting lost in other fascinating words.
My love of words and using them precisely to accurately communicate ideas has held true throughout 20+ years of teaching and 10+ years of professional communication. In kindergarten through junior college classes, I've done everything I could to help my students also fall in love with words. In the business world, I've researched and then communicated via email to doctors and nurse directors/managers regarding final disposition of controlled substances (or lack thereof). I've handled customer service via email and supervised other representatives doing the same.
Then there's the total change in ideas that can come from misusing or simply not using punctuation. When you love words, it's painful to see them used and punctuated incorrectly. That's why I proofread.
I have proofread:
My love for words keeps me constantly reading and learning. I don't intend to stop.
I love to spend time with my family, read, crochet, walk half marathons, and play Mah Jongg.
